How this tool works
Enter a salary and optional bonus for each offer, select the country and filing status. Click "Compare offers" and the tool runs each offer through the Tax Atlas tax engine — the same reviewer-verified calculations behind every country calculator on this site.
What's included: base salary, annual cash bonus (treated as additional compensation at the same marginal rate), income tax, and mandatory payroll contributions that the engine models for each country — UK National Insurance, Ireland USC and PRSI, Canadian CPP and EI, Australian Medicare Levy, Singapore CPF, and standard tax rebates and allowances.
What's not included — and why: Equity and RSU compensation is excluded because its tax treatment depends on grant type (ISO vs NSO), vesting schedule, and the market price at exercise — a genuinely different calculation that can't be reduced to a salary equivalent without more inputs. Relocation costs, cost-of-living, and benefits (health insurance, pension matching) are also excluded: they're real factors in a job decision, but comparing "which offer pays more" is a distinct question from "which offer gives me better real purchasing power in my city of choice." The tool answers the first question accurately and transparently flags that the second question requires separate analysis.
For cross-border comparisons, both take-home amounts are converted to USD using static mid-market rates (last updated 2026-05-09). These rates give a reasonable planning approximation. The tool shows the rate date so you know how to factor in recent currency movements.
Worked example: £75,000 in London vs €85,000 in Dublin
A software engineer is choosing between a UK offer of £75,000 and an Irish offer of €85,000. Here's what the engine computes for each, and how they compare after converting to USD at 2026-05-09 rates.
| Item | 🇬🇧 UK offer (£75,000) | 🇮🇪 Ireland offer (€85,000) |
|---|---|---|
| Gross salary | £75,000 | 85.000 € |
| Total tax & contributions | £20,943 | 27.632 € |
| Annual take-home | £54,057 | 57.368 € |
| Monthly take-home | £4,505 | 4.781 € |
| Effective tax rate | 27.9% | 32.5% |
| Take-home in USD (approx.) | $68,246 | $62,505 |
| Winner | Higher take-home | — |
Despite the higher euro-denominated salary, the UK offer yields approximately $5,740 more in take-home pay per year when converted to USD at 2026-05-09 rates. Ireland's USC and PRSI add meaningfully to the tax burden at this income level. Figures computed by the Tax Atlas engine using 2026/27 UK and 2026 Ireland rates. Frequently asked questions
How do I compare a UK offer to a US offer?
Select "United Kingdom" for Offer A and "United States" for Offer B. Enter each salary in its local currency — the tool converts both to USD using mid-market exchange rates so you can see which offer puts more in your pocket after tax.
Which countries are supported?
The Job Offer Comparison tool supports all 9 Tax Atlas countries: United States, United Kingdom, India, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore, and South Africa.
Does this account for RSUs or equity compensation?
No. This tool compares cash compensation only (base salary plus cash bonus). Equity and RSU taxation is complex and varies significantly by grant structure, vesting schedule, and jurisdiction. If your offer includes significant equity, this tool compares the cash component only — a limitation shown clearly in the interface.
Does this include cost of living?
No. The tool shows take-home pay after tax and mandatory contributions, converted to a common currency for cross-border comparison. Cost of living (rent, transport, groceries) is a separate calculation entirely. £3,000/month in London and €3,000/month in Dublin have very different purchasing power — the tool deliberately does not attempt to model this, since cost of living data varies significantly by city and lifestyle.
How accurate is this comparison?
The income tax calculations use the same reviewer-verified engine as all Tax Atlas country calculators, sourced from each country's official tax authority. Exchange rates are static mid-market rates from 2026-05-09 — they give a reasonable approximation for planning but will differ from the actual rate at the time you are paid. All calculations are estimates for informational purposes only; consult a qualified tax professional for advice specific to your situation.
What mandatory contributions are included?
Each country's engine models the standard mandatory deductions: UK National Insurance (Class 1 employee), Ireland PRSI and USC, US federal income tax (state tax not included), Canadian CPP and EI, Australian Medicare Levy, New Zealand KiwiSaver (optional), Singapore CPF, and South Africa's standard rebates. See each country's calculator page for the full breakdown.
