Privacy Policy
The short version: we collect almost nothing. Your income figures never leave your device.
1. What data Tax Atlas collects
Tax Atlas is designed to collect as little data as possible. Here is what is actually collected:
Cloudflare infrastructure logs
Tax Atlas is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and served through Cloudflare's global CDN. Cloudflare processes standard web request data — including IP addresses — as part of delivering the site and protecting it from abuse. This data is handled according to Cloudflare's privacy policy and standard retention schedules. Tax Atlas does not access per-user request logs from Cloudflare.
Privacy-respecting analytics
Tax Atlas may use Plausible Analytics or a similar privacy-first analytics tool to understand aggregate traffic — which pages are visited, which countries users are interested in, and approximate traffic volumes. Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, does not track individuals across sessions or sites, and does not share data with third parties. All data is aggregated and anonymous. If analytics are active, it will be noted here.
Email correspondence
If you contact us at hello@taxatlas.app, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use this only to respond to your inquiry. We do not add you to any marketing list.
2. What we do not collect
The following data is never collected, stored, or transmitted to any server:
- Income amounts entered into calculators. All calculations run entirely in your browser. The numbers you type never leave your device.
- Tax results from calculations. Results are computed locally and displayed locally. Nothing is sent to our servers.
- Your name. Tax Atlas has no accounts and no signup.
- Your email address (unless you voluntarily email us — see above).
- Payment or financial information. Tax Atlas is free and accepts no payments.
- Device fingerprints or cross-site tracking identifiers.
- Location data beyond what Cloudflare infrastructure logs at the network level (see above).
4. Third-party services
Cloudflare
Tax Atlas is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and routed through Cloudflare's CDN. Cloudflare acts as an infrastructure provider and processes web request data in accordance with its own privacy policy. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Affiliate partners
Tax Atlas may link to third-party tax software products (such as TurboTax, TaxAct, TaxScouts, or ClearTax) via affiliate links on country calculator pages. These links are clearly disclosed on the pages that carry them. Clicking an affiliate link takes you to a third-party site with its own privacy practices — Tax Atlas is not responsible for data collected by those sites.
Status as of this policy's effective date: affiliate links are not yet active on any Tax Atlas page. This section will be updated when they go live.
5. Children's privacy
Tax Atlas is not directed at children under the age of 16 and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact hello@taxatlas.app and we will delete it promptly.
6. International data transfers
As a Cloudflare-hosted site, requests from any country in the world are routed through Cloudflare's global edge network — which includes data centers in the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, and many other jurisdictions. Cloudflare's data residency and transfer practices are described in their privacy policy. Because Tax Atlas does not collect personal data beyond what Cloudflare processes at the infrastructure level, no additional cross-border transfers of your personal data occur.
7. Your rights
GDPR (European Economic Area and UK)
If you are in the EEA or UK, you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, and port your personal data. Because Tax Atlas collects almost no personal data, these rights apply primarily to any email correspondence you have sent us. To exercise any right, email hello@taxatlas.app. We will respond within 30 days.
CCPA (California residents)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion of personal information, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. Tax Atlas does not sell personal information. The personal information we hold is limited to voluntary email correspondence. To make a request, email hello@taxatlas.app.
8. Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we will update the effective date at the top of the page. For material changes — such as beginning to collect new categories of data — we will provide at least 30 days' notice by posting a notice on the Tax Atlas homepage before the change takes effect. Continued use of Tax Atlas after the effective date of a changed policy constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
